Description
CD Utils provides a suite of command line utilities to easily backup and restore data to CD as well as simple, yet powerful burning capabilities for data and audio.
CD Utils is intended for use on Linux, but could probably be used on other unix like operating systems.
CD Utils utilises existing CDR burning tools (cdrtools) and provides a simple interface, aimed at making the process of burning a CD from the command line easier.
There is also a module available to use CD Utils with SME Server (was e-smith). The module provides a web-based interface to CD Utils via the SME server-manager (I have tested it on SME Server 5.1.2 and 5.5.) This allows you to configure CD Utils, and backup or restore to/from CD. It also provides a way to burn CDs on your servers CDRW from a web interface.
Simplicity - Above all else the CD Utils suite aims to provide a simple and easy way to get your stuff onto CD Media without lots of different flags, and configuration options. There are currently three components: CD Backup (cd_backup) - Backup your critical files to CD with a single command. For manual backup, or use in a scheduled task. (A compressed copy of the files is burnt to a CD, which can also be read by PCs) CD Restore (cd_restore) - Restore from a backup CD in a single command. CD Burn (cd_burn) - Burn audio, data, or multi-mode CDs from the contents of a single directory (or an iso image). This command analyses the contents of the directory, and changes its behaviour based on what it contains, and what your asking it to do (data, audio, or mutli-mode). you can use the same command to burn a CD from an ISO image.
